Timothy Simons and Justine Lupe’s characters finally crossed the line in Nobody Wants This Season 3, Episode 7, which sends Sasha and Morgan through a single day in New York and ends with a kiss. What starts as a work trip for Morgan, who is in New York to appear on Watch What Happens Live, becomes the hour where their long-running attraction stops being theoretical.
Simons said the episode was built to feel like a romance, with the team aiming for a dreamy quality similar to Before Sunrise. That approach matters because the show has usually kept Sasha and Morgan in the orbit of friendship, not open pursuit, and here the entire 3,000-mile trip is compressed into one day so the feeling has nowhere to drift. By the final moments, they are sharing a hotel suite, Morgan has the bed, Sasha is on the living room sofa, and both have sworn to forgo sex for the good of their close friendship.
That promise does not hold. Sasha appears at Morgan’s bedroom door and they kiss, turning a carefully managed friendship into something that can no longer be explained away as a passing moment. Lupe said the episode feels like a departure and something different, while also noting that she and Simons had never been cast as romantic leads in something so concentrated.
The setup gives the episode its pull because it is narrow by design. The story is built around Sasha, who is freshly single, and Morgan, who has room to explore what the attraction means when the usual noise around them is stripped away. Lupe said the installment has strong material for Joanne and Noah as well, but the pressure around those characters hangs in the background rather than taking over the frame. That makes the New York trip feel like a contained test of whether Sasha and Morgan can keep their relationship in the safe category they have defined for it.
The friction is that they cannot. Simons said their relationship might cause strife in both of their families, and the scene that follows the no-sex agreement suggests the problem is not just physical. Once Sasha shows up at Morgan’s door, the episode stops being about whether they are attracted to each other and starts being about what that attraction does to the rules they built around their friendship. For now, the kiss is the answer the hour gives. What it becomes outside that room is the unanswered part that matters most, because a relationship that starts as a one-day exception may not stay one.
