Peter Berg is attached to direct Taylor Sheridan’s Call of Duty movie, giving the long-gestating adaptation a clear creative team as interest builds around who might join it. Ray Nicholson and Inde Navarrette both discussed the project while speaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Nicholson said it would be an honor to work with Berg again after recently collaborating with him on Mosquito Day, and he made clear he wants another shot with the filmmaker. That helps explain why his name keeps coming up now: he is not just talking about a big franchise, he is talking about a director he already knows.
The actor did not hide how much he wants back in Berg’s orbit. He called Berg one of the most authentic people he has ever met, said he does not capitulate to anyone, and praised the way he handles action while still bringing heart to the work. Nicholson also said he is secretly working with a dialect coach 24/7 because he thinks he has the worst British accent of all time, a line that points to the same thing: he believes the production may be looking for Brits, even if he is trying to prepare himself anyway.
Navarrette also spoke about wanting to join the upcoming adaptation, adding another name to the conversation around casting. But nothing has been locked in, and that is the point. Taylor Sheridan is writing the screenplay, Berg is set to direct, and the project is moving from a name-only development stage toward something with real momentum, even if the cast is still open.
Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises, and Hollywood has spent years trying to turn game properties into films that feel less like products and more like events. If this one moves forward the way it now appears to be moving, the next real answer will not be whether the film exists, but which actors Berg and Sheridan choose to put in front of the camera.
