Prince Harry's reported plan to consider a documentary about Princess Diana is being cast as a fresh threat to any thaw with Prince William. Helena Chard said the project would not be read as a peace offering and warned it could reignite the Prince William and Prince Harry rift just as Harry's return to Britain opens a narrow chance to mend it.

A source told People that Harry's return to Britain presents the best opportunity to repair the fractured relationship, with the insider saying, “It would never happen with him in America” and adding that the trip gives them “an opportunity to try and mend that bridge.” That is why the current moment matters: if the brothers are going to speak, this is the window experts are pointing to.

Chard said the reported planning of a Diana documentary for the 30th anniversary is the main reason behind Harry's relocation, and she did not soften her view. “I don't buy this,” she said. “This isn't bridge building.” In her telling, the idea is “lobbing a grenade at Prince William's feet.”

Her objection is rooted in how William is said to view anything built around Diana, who died in 1997 at age 36. Chard said William has said no to every Diana documentary offer, does not want to speak so openly about his mother, and would not want publicity created for Harry's documentary. She said he would prefer to handle anything privately, because he does not want the brothers pitted against each other and he wants Diana left in peace.

That is the friction at the heart of the story. The return to Britain could offer a rare opening for reconciliation after years of strain, and several royal experts have said the brothers have not been on speaking terms since 2022. But the reported documentary idea, if it moves ahead, would pull the feud back into public view at exactly the moment William is said to want quiet. Chard said next year is going to be tough enough and summed up his view in two words: “Enough is enough.”

For now, the unanswered question is whether Harry will actually proceed with the reported Diana documentary, or whether the chance to repair the relationship will be lost before the brothers even sit down together.
