A 15-year-old boy was killed and a 57-year-old man was wounded in a shooting outside the King Towers NYCHA complex in Harlem on Wednesday evening. Police said the teenager, Jihad Pack, was shot in the stomach and later died after being taken to Mount Sinai Morningside.

Officers responded at about 6:21 p.m. after a ShotSpotter activation outside the complex on West 115th Street, and found two people with gunshot wounds at the scene. The other victim, a 57-year-old man, suffered a wound to the hand and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition.

That second victim was described by sources as an innocent bystander, a detail that only deepens the concern around a shooting that unfolded in a place where families live and move through every day. The incident left a teenager dead and another man injured within the same evening response, turning a block in Harlem into a crime scene in minutes.

Police took a person of interest into custody at the scene, but no charges have been announced and investigators have not released a motive. That leaves the central question unresolved: what led to the gunfire outside King Towers NYCHA, and whether the person taken into custody will remain the focus of the investigation.
