Sergey Sosedov, 58, died while on tour in Neryungri, Yakutia, after a fall on a staircase that left him with a head injury. He was heading to breakfast when he stumbled, hit his head and later died.
That death is drawing attention now because it happened while the music critic was working away from home, not after a long illness in public view. Close to the family said it was an accident, and relatives told Mash that he had been feeling unwell for a week before the tragedy.
The sequence around the fall is not simple. StarHit said Sosedov suffered brain swelling, while his relatives said a blood clot may have been set off by the long flight to Yakutia and that the detached clot caused the fall. In other words, the staircase incident may have been the last step in a chain that had already begun before he reached the stairs.
Relatives also said Sosedov had long had heart problems and had not been drinking for a long time, details that point to a frail condition before the trip. He was scheduled to lead the jury for the Жемчужина ДВ 2026 contest on 25 September, a duty that now will not happen.
What is clear is that the immediate cause was a fatal blow to the head after the fall, but the trigger behind that fall remains the unresolved part. For now, the account left to his family is both simpler and harder to accept: an accident on tour, with a medical chain behind it that may have started long before Neryungri.
