The Indianapolis Colts head to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night for a Kc Game that puts them opposite the Kansas City Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sept. 20. NBC will carry the Week 2 meeting from Kansas City, Missouri, in a prime-time slot that gives the Colts a quick chance to change the way they looked in Week 1.
That is the reason the matchup is drawing attention now: Indianapolis got off to a terrible start in the season opener, struggled mightily on defense and now has little time to sort it out before facing a Chiefs team that had an impressive opener on Monday Night Football. Joel A. Erickson projected a 38-21 Kansas City win, writing that it is hard to imagine Indianapolis putting up a fight against one of the league’s best quarterbacks if the Colts cannot stop anybody defensively.
The broadcast setup is as clear as the stakes. Mike Tirico will handle play-by-play for NBC, Cris Collinsworth will provide analysis and Melissa Stark will be on the sideline. Fans in Indianapolis can follow the game on 93.5, 97.1 and 107.5 FM, while Kansas City listeners will hear it on 96.5 FM. SiriusXM will also carry the Colts feed on channels 192 and 193.
What makes the game harder to dismiss is the contrast between the two teams’ openers. The Chiefs arrive with momentum and the Colts arrive with a defensive problem that showed up immediately, which means Sunday is less about standings than about whether Indianapolis can avoid another early hole. If the Colts do not show real progress fast, the matchup could look a lot like the prediction that already hangs over it.
Kickoff comes Sunday, Sept. 20, and by then the question will be simple: did the Colts repair enough of what broke in Week 1, or did the Chiefs turn another prime-time stage into another blunt reminder of the gap between the two teams?
