Malia Nummerdor, 38, was arrested in Port Charlotte on Sept. 15 after deputies reviewed footage tied to her husband’s report of sexual contact with the family dog. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest public on Sept. 16, turning a private discovery into a criminal case with a named charge.
The reason people are searching her name now is the trail of evidence that started days earlier. Erik posted on Facebook on Sept. 11 that he had security camera footage showing Nummerdor engaged in sexual activities with their dog, then spoke with deputies on Sept. 14 and showed them the footage. He also gave the sheriff’s full access to his laptop that day, giving investigators a direct route into the material he had described.
By Sept. 15, deputies had conducted a recorded interview with Nummerdor. During that interview, she acknowledged that she had been with the family dog in the video footage. Deputies said she could not justify her actions and made false claims during the interview, which ended after she asked to speak with an attorney. They told her she would be arrested shortly after the interview was over.
That sequence matters because Florida Statute § 828.126 defines sexual contact with an animal as a sexual act between a person and an animal for gratification, abuse or financial gain, involving contact between the sex organ or anus of one and the mouth, sex organ or anus of the other. Nummerdor is charged with sexual contact with an animal, and the case now rests on the footage, the interview and the sheriff’s report that tied the two together.
What remains unanswered is not whether deputies acted, but how much of the footage they saw and what exactly it showed before they moved to arrest her. For now, the public record is clear enough on the part that matters most: Erik’s report set the case in motion, and deputies say the interview did not resolve it in her favor.
