Gordon Kaelin McIntyre, the former frontman of CDC, has died unexpectedly after he was hit by a car while riding his Harley-Davidson. A GoFundMe post by Katherine Potter said the car was making a left-hand turn.
The news landed quickly because McIntyre was more than a name from the band’s past. CDC said he joined in 2005 on 6 days notice, was thrown into the fire for the group’s first coast to coast tour, and then came and went as needed over the next 8 years. The band said his role in those early years still defines its history, and that his name is forever tied to CDC.
That is why the response has been immediate. Before his death, McIntyre had posted lyrics from Every Time I Die in the aftermath of Andy Williams’ passing, then wrote on Facebook, “What I need is a cigarette” and “No more prayers.” After McIntyre died, CDC issued a tribute, while Kurt Fowles said on Instagram that it is impossible to process that someone who was such a huge part of his life is suddenly gone.
Fowles also said he keeps thinking about “all the memories, all the laughs, all the miles” they shared and added, “I can’t believe you’re gone, Kael. Rest easy, brother. I’ll carry those memories with me for the rest of my life.” The words fit the picture CDC and others drew of McIntyre: a road veteran who stayed in music long after his time in the band ended and later built a career selling merch for bands and acts of all sizes and genera's.
What remains unanswered is the basic sequence around the crash. No further official update has identified the driver or said whether anyone else was hurt, leaving the public to learn only that McIntyre’s death was sudden, violent and already being mourned across the circle of people who knew him best.
