United Airlines has pulled all Newark Liberty International Airport to Dubai International Airport flights from its upcoming winter schedule and pushed the route’s return to March 27, 2027. The move extends a suspension that has already kept the nonstop service off the board since February 2026.
That change matters now because the route had been scheduled to restart on October 24, 2026. Instead, travelers looking for the long-haul flight will have to wait until late March, when United says it will bring back daily service with the Boeing 777-300ER.
The Newark to Dubai run is not a side note in United’s network. It covers 5,962 nautical miles each way, and the United States Department of Transportation says United carried 169,212 round-trip passengers on the route from March 2025 to February 2026. The market was United’s ninth most-trafficked from New Jersey across the North Atlantic, with an 83.1% seat fill rate, which shows the service was filling a meaningful share of its seats before the war in Iran forced it off the schedule.
United launched nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Dubai International Airport in March 2023 and operated it daily until February 2026. The latest cut does not erase the route entirely, but it does turn a temporary pause into a much longer gap, stretching the interruption to more than a year by the time the new restart date arrives.
There is still one built-in uncertainty. United’s new plan is only as firm as the conditions around the Gulf, and the return date could move again if those conditions change. For now, though, the airline has made a clear call: the winter schedule will not include Newark to Dubai, and the next published restart is March 27, 2027.
The route also sits inside a broader competitive picture. Emirates continues to serve Newark Liberty International Airport daily via Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, and Air Canada has pushed Toronto to Dubai International Airport flights to 2027. OAG Traffic Analyzer estimated that 42% of the traffic on United’s route came from elsewhere in North America or in Latin America connecting onward to Dubai International Airport via Newark Liberty International Airport, which means the suspension affects more than just New Jersey-origin travelers.
When the route returns, United says it will again use the Boeing 777-300ER on a daily basis. Until then, the question is not whether the route once worked. It did. The question is whether March 27, 2027 becomes the real reopening date, or just the next marker in a schedule that remains exposed to events far outside Newark.
