Apple is turning iOS 27 into a bigger upgrade for the home, adding Apple Intelligence features to HomeKit and the Home app while sharpening how the system handles cameras, alerts and device control. The update can summarize important notifications, including when someone is seen at the door or when smoke is detected, and it can pull footage from multiple cameras into a single event view.
That is why the iOS 27 release date has become a search term now: the build is being framed as the current update that finally gives HomeKit more AI muscle. For users with cameras, smart doorbells and Apple TVs, the changes are not cosmetic. The Home app can now search camera events, describe videos with short AI-generated summaries, and help identify faces or animals more accurately than before.
The upgrade also changes how the home is managed day to day. Videos in the Home app are recorded in 4K, and the system can show a sequence of footage of a person moving through rooms equipped with a camera, which makes it easier to follow what happened without jumping between clips. There is still a catch. iOS 27 is centered on Siri AI, but the revamped Siri is not coming to the HomePod just yet. That leaves Apple’s home push in an awkward middle ground: the software is moving faster than the hardware that many users associate with it, and new releases tied to upcoming hardware have not been officially announced.
For people who want to try the features early, Apple Beta Program users can sign up to test the latest builds ahead of time. Beta software can be unstable, though, so it is meant for a spare device rather than the one someone depends on every day. For everyone else, the more immediate question is less what iOS 27 can do than when Apple will let the wider public use it.
HomeKit has not really taken advantage of AI until now, and iOS 27 is the first update that makes that shift visible in the Home app itself. Apple has not given a public release date, so the next milestone for users is whether the beta testing period exposes more of the home-focused features before the final rollout.
