Carole Radziwill is back on The Real Housewives of New York City for Season 16, and she says the timing of her return collided with something she did not expect to face again: FX's Love Story. Radziwill said the series premiered in the same weeks she started filming again, and the overlap hit her "like a body slam."
That matters now because RHONY Season 16 was set to premiere Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, putting Radziwill's return back in the conversation at the same time she is explaining why this stretch felt so difficult. She had left the show in July 2018 after wrapping Season 10, then said Andy Cohen called the next month after BravoCon in November to ask whether she would come back.
Radziwill said she was shocked by the request and needed time before deciding. She said she had never even seen the show or heard of it before joining in 2012, and that she "marinated around the idea for a few months" before agreeing. By the time filming began again, she knew Love Story was coming on, and that made the moment more loaded than a routine reality-TV return.
The reason was simple. The FX series focused on John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and Radziwill said she had not planned on talking about it. She said, "I didn't watch it, but you couldn't get away from it," adding that Martha Stewart watched it and that the other women on the cast were curious about it. That meant the subject was already in the room before she chose to bring it there.
There was also a personal history underneath the promotion cycle. Anthony Radziwill was the nephew of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and he died less than a month after a plane piloted by John F. Kennedy Jr. crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on July 16, 1999. Radziwill said the timing of Love Story made the experience emotionally hard, and she described it as "very hard" to sit with while she was trying to settle back into filming.
That is why the overlap stands out more than a typical reality-TV reunion. Radziwill was not just returning to a familiar franchise; she was doing it while a dramatized story tied to her family history was airing at the same time. She said she had not planned on talking about Love Story, but the show and the filming schedule left her little room to avoid it.
The next step is straightforward. RHONY Season 16 is heading toward its Sept. 8 premiere, and Radziwill's comments have turned her return into more than a nostalgia play. They make the question less about whether she came back and more about how much of that past she will be forced to carry on screen.
