Hallmark Channel is putting a real Copenhagen backdrop behind its new holiday movie, and Emilie Ullerup is at the center of it. A Danish Christmas, which stars Ullerup and Corey Sevier, was filmed on location in Copenhagen, Denmark and premieres Sunday, November 1 at 8/7c.

That timing matters because viewers do not have long to wait for the next stop in Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas. The film will move to Hallmark+ the next day, giving the movie a quick second life after its cable debut. Ullerup plays Marie, a hotel tech executive from Chicago who returns home to Copenhagen for the holidays and helps at her family’s inn, where the season is supposed to look perfect.

Producer Linda Corolei said the production had to film in Denmark in December to capture the magic of Christmas in Copenhagen, pointing to the city’s lights, decorations and atmosphere as details that could not be faked elsewhere. She also said she wanted the project to feel authentic as a first-time Hallmark producer telling a story tied to her home country, which is why the on-location shoot is part of the movie’s appeal rather than a footnote.

The story itself is built around a mistake that complicates Marie’s plans. She thinks Ryan Miller, played by Sevier, is a travel writer, and she tries to make his stay perfect because she believes he is expecting a Christmas tour. That plan collides with the fact that the inn has not offered the tour since Marie’s father died, and her mother plans to sell the property after New Year. When Ryan Miller the journalist arrives, Marie realizes she has been preparing for the wrong man.

The city setting is the hook, but the movie is also a familiar Hallmark holiday setup: a homecoming, a family business under pressure and a Christmas story that depends on keeping a fragile tradition alive. For Ullerup, who has built a screen career across projects including Chesapeake Shores, Nature of Love and Christmas Bells Are Ringing, A Danish Christmas gives her a lead role that ties the holiday format directly to Denmark, with Hallmark now set to show the result first on November 1 and then again on Hallmark+ on November 2.
