Angel has picked up worldwide rights to Rode To Ruin, putting Michael Keaton’s Western thriller on a fast track toward a 2027 launch and giving the project a domestic release plan. The move also sends the film into international sales, with Angel set to open that process at TIFF: The Market next week.

For Keaton, the deal keeps him in the center of the project both as star and director, with Morgan Freeman joining him on screen in a pairing that will mark their first reunion in almost four decades. The two last worked together in Clean and Sober in 1988, and Rode To Ruin now becomes the latest step in a career turn for Keaton that has already included directing Knox Goes Away and The Merry Gentleman.

The film, written by R. Dean McCreary, is being described as a haunting Western thriller about a retired U.S. Marshal whose forty-year search for his wife’s killer leads him to an aging outlaw losing his memory and to a buried truth neither man may survive. That premise fits the kind of character-driven material Angel has been pushing through a business model built around Angel Guild members watching, screening and voting on what gets distributed in theaters and on the Angel platform.

Revelations Entertainment and Keaton’s George & Leona Productions are behind the film, with Lori McCreary, Keaton, Kelly Mendelsohn and Gary Lucchesi producing. Angel’s David Fischer said the project matches the company’s taste for honest stories with integrity and called the Keaton-Freeman pairing a special combination, while Lori McCreary said the partnership felt natural because both sides share a mission rooted in truth and purpose.

There is still one practical piece missing: a start date for production has not been set, even with the release window already pointing to 2027. That leaves Rode To Ruin in the unusual position of being sold before the cameras have rolled, a sign that Angel is leaning hard into presales after spending two years building an international network that has released its movies theatrically in more than 95 countries.

That strategy is likely to be tested next week at TIFF: The Market, where Angel will open international sales for the film. The company’s slate already includes Runner, Hershey and Zero A.D., but Rode To Ruin gives it a headline title built around two names that still carry weight together, and this time the market will be asked to buy the promise before a frame has been shot.
