Fortnite’s first update of Chapter 7 Season 4 is v42.10, and it lands with four new Fortnite sprites: Onigiri, X-Ray, Mega Man and Overshield. The patch also adds three match overrides and a batch of new loot hacks, giving players fresh things to chase the moment they log in after downloading it.
The new weapons tied to those loot hacks are Overwatch’s Caduceus Staff, Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion's Combat Kit, the Wrecker Revolver, the Deadeye Assault Rifle and the Holo Twister Assault Rifle. Players can unlock them with Sprite Dust, the currency used to open those loot hacks, so the update is not just adding names to a list; it is tying the new gear to a system built around finding and spending that dust on the island.
That is why the patch is being searched now. v42.10 is the first update of the season, so the new content is arriving right as players are looking for what changed and what is actually usable in Battle Royale and Lego Fortnite Odyssey. The three match overrides are the other immediate gameplay shift. Big Head makes everyone’s head huge. Prop Hunt turns a crouching, still player into a prop. Action Hero gives players hangtime when they aim down sights in midair. Those are not cosmetic touches. They change how a match plays the moment they are active.
There is also more happening around the update than just sprites and weapons. Fortnite OG now has a brand-new Battle Pass based on Chapter 1 Season X, while Lego Fortnite Odyssey has new Lego Batman content with missions for the Dark Knight to track stolen parts of Gotham City hidden on the island. Players can use bat-gear, including the Batmobile, to complete those missions, and the event runs until Oct. 15, with the chance to recruit Lego Batman as a villager at the end.
The wrinkle is timing. The current pass was extended until Oct. 31, so the Batman-themed run does not roll neatly into a Batman-themed next pass. That makes the return of the Batman Caped Crusader pack on Sept. 17 and the Oct. 15 event end date part of a wider stretch of back-to-back content, rather than a clean handoff. What players get from v42.10 is immediate gameplay variety now, while the larger question is which of the new sprites becomes the one people keep using after the novelty wears off.
