Square Enix has set Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027, and did it in a 10-minute trailer that also laid out where the game will land: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Naoki Hamaguchi appeared on camera to introduce the rest of the footage, turning the trailer into the clearest signal yet that the next chapter in the series is now on the clock.

That date matters because players who have been waiting for the next Final Fantasy VII entry finally have a fixed target, and because Hamaguchi used the moment to press the point that Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth should come first. For anyone tracking a possible Ff7 Rebirth Collector's Edition, the message was just as direct: the runway is long, but the launch is no longer vague.

The trailer spent most of its time showing why Square Enix thinks the wait is worth it. Cloud and Co. can leap from the Highwind airship and parachute to the planet below, then swing into travel on a chocobo that can sprint, glide and fly, while also taking part in combat. The Highwind is not just transport here; it is the base of operations, and players can pilot it in real time to new locations.

Square Enix also put a sharper structure around the FITS system, describing it as the game’s Job system. Party members can slot into classes like warrior and black mage through FITS, and players can manage that setup aboard the Highwind. That means the party’s build choices are tied to the ship itself, so the game is not only asking players to move between locations, but to keep reshaping how each character is used as the journey goes on.

The new footage also dug into the world itself. Wutai, Yuffie’s ninja-centric homeland, was shown as a fantastical take on feudal Japan, with Yuffie using a grapple gun to move through its tall buildings. Revelation also includes Rocket Town, and the trailer returned to Gongaga, where side quests are said to reveal more about what is happening in the world. Those quests will shift depending on who is controlling the party, and Cissnei reacts differently when she is with Vincent than when she is with Yuffie.

That story-first approach comes with a wrinkle. Square Enix says players will be able to speed up cutscenes by 2x, a practical feature in a game built around more narrative material, including side quests that change with the party leader. Queen’s Blood is back too, with Red XIII taking the lead in its saga, which gives the game another layer of optional storytelling even as it offers a shortcut through the main scenes.

The result is a release that now feels defined rather than teased. Final Fantasy VII Revelation arrives on April 8, 2027, and until then Square Enix is signaling both what the game will cover and how broad that coverage will be. What remains unanswered is how much of Rocket Town and the other new areas will be shown before launch, but the starting line is fixed and the next trip begins there.
