Miley Cyrus dropped her last name from her social media handles on Monday and is now going by Miley. She marked the shift with two new red and black photos on Instagram, captioning one simply: "MILEY."
The change is landing now because it fits the way Cyrus has been framing her next chapter. She signed to Atlantic Records last month, and the name switch looks like part of the rollout around new music rather than a casual edit to her profile. She has not said when her 10th studio album will arrive, but the timing makes the move feel deliberate.
Cyrus, 33, has been talking openly about what this era means to her. In a Wonderland magazine Q&A with Daryl Hannah last month, she called the project a love story and said love stories are never one-dimensional. She also said the record carries a romantic thread, while reflecting where she is in her life, and that a peaceful kind of love has run through her last three records.
That framing gives the handle change more weight than a simple rebrand. Cyrus has moved before, from Sony Music's Columbia and RCA to Atlantic Records, and each shift has marked a new phase in how she presents her music. She was previously tied to the old star-making machinery of Disney Channel and Hannah Montana, but this latest move points to a more stripped-down identity: just Miley, with no last name required.
What she has not done is fill in the biggest blank. Cyrus has not announced a release date for the 10th studio album that would follow 2025's Something Beautiful, released last May. She was photographed last Tuesday heading into a Los Angeles studio to film an upcoming project, and after Dolly Parton died at 80 years old, Cyrus also shared an emotional Instagram tribute that underscored how closely she ties her art to personal change. For now, the name on the screen is the clearest signal she is ready for whatever comes next.
