General Hospital has cast Alimi Ballard in the new role of William Baines, and his Port Charles debut is set for Thursday, September 3. The move gives the ABC soap another new character on the board just as the show keeps reshaping its cast.
Ballard is a familiar face to daytime viewers. He began his television career as Frankie Hubbard on Loving and The City, and later built a steady prime-time résumé with credits on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Criminal Minds, Queen Sugar, NCIS, The Rookie and Law & Order.
TV Insider revealed the hiring news, and the timing is part of what makes it land now. In July, General Hospital brought in Kelly Kruger as a recast Serena Baldwin, Kayden Brenna Tokarski as a recast Scout Cain, Dean Geyer as Dr. Tristan Roberts, Troy Lennon Appel as JJE executive Hudson Parker, and Grady Eldridge as A&R rep Simon. Earlier this week, Chris McKenna's WSB agent character Jack Brennan was killed off, leaving room for the kind of fresh arrival that soaps use to reset the board fast.
Ballard's arrival also comes with one notable blank space: there are no details yet about William Baines, beyond the name and the date. That keeps the role from being easy to pin down and makes the debut itself the main story for now.
