Meghan Markle is still in talks to join Netflix's The Gentlemen, even after earlier reports said the potential deal had fallen through. No agreement has been finalized, and it remains unclear how many episodes she would appear in if the project moves ahead.

The renewed attention comes as season 2 of The Gentlemen is set to premiere on Sept. 3, 2026, putting the series back in the spotlight. The show, which stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Giancarlo Esposito, is filmed in the U.K. and set in England, making any role for Markle a return to scripted television on the same platform that carried Suits.

People reported on Aug. 24, 2026 that the talks were still alive after Deadline had described them as being in very early stages. That is the wrinkle at the center of the story: one round of reporting suggested the opportunity had collapsed, but the newer account says the door is still open, just not yet pushed all the way through.

For Markle, the possible part would matter because it would not be a cameo as herself. In 2025, she filmed a small appearance in Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends, which starred Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding, but The Gentlemen would be a more significant scripted return after Suits.

That is why the reaction has been so sharp. Dan Wakeford said Markle could reset her career by finding an extraordinary script and returning to the acting roots that made her famous. Kinsey Schofield said a return would suggest that the most viable professional identity she has found may still be the one she walked away from, while Doug Eldridge said the long-running problem is simple: what is her identity? He added that she has ridden a carousel of career horses, yet nothing has stuck.

For now, that question is still unanswered. If Markle signs, The Gentlemen would give her the kind of scripted role that has been missing from her recent work. If she does not, the latest round of talk will become another reminder that, for all the interest around her next move, no final deal is on the table yet.
