Corpus Christi City Council has given the go-ahead for a 7-foot bronze Farrah Fawcett statue along Corpus Christi's downtown seawall, moving a long-discussed tribute from idea to approved project. The contract with Friends of Farrah was accepted unanimously, clearing the way for the likeness of the city’s famous alumna to be placed near the Art Center of Corpus Christi.
The statue is designed to show Fawcett skateboarding down the seawall, a pose meant to echo iconic scenes from the Charlie’s Angels days and give the monument a sense of motion rather than a fixed portrait. Its green patina finish is meant to age with the bronze and fit the public setting where it will stand.
For readers searching now, the significance is simple: the city has formally signed off on a tribute to one of its most embraced stars, and the approved site puts it in a highly visible stretch of public space. Friends of Farrah, the private donor group behind the proposal, has agreed to commission the artwork and pay for construction, installation and maintenance, which removes the financial burden from the city.
The placement also puts Fawcett’s likeness about 1,500 feet away from Selena Quintanilla Perez on the same high-traffic path, turning the seawall into a corridor of local memory. That proximity matters because the new statue is not being treated as a standalone ornament; it joins a part of Corpus Christi already marked by public commemoration and everyday foot traffic.
What the approval does not answer is when the work will actually begin or when the statue will be installed. The council has cleared the contract, but the calendar for construction and placement remains unstated, leaving the project approved but not yet visible on the seawall.
That uncertainty sits beside a clear fact: Fawcett, a Ray High School alumna and one of Corpus Christi’s most celebrated names, is now set to join the city’s public landscape in bronze. The vote makes the tribute official; the next step is turning the approved design into a finished figure on the waterfront.
