Leah Remini angle as Bravo adds Tracy Tutor to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Bravo has added Tracy Tutor to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, putting one of its best-known reality personalities into one of the network’s flagship franchises. Andy Cohen said it was “a very long time coming,” and made clear the move was meant to work because Tutor already fits the show’s world.

The casting gives Leah Remini a fresh point of comparison only in the sense that Bravo is once again betting on a familiar face with a built-in audience to keep a reality brand moving. Tutor has spent years on Watch What Happens Live! promoting Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, and Cohen said she overlaps with the Beverly Hills cast, has a personal story that is “so great,” and is “aspirational.” He added that if the mark of a strong Real Housewife is saying what you feel, she is “certainly a bullseye.”

That is also why this addition lands now. Bravo has been trying to widen the pool in places such as Nashville, Chicago and Greenwich, Connecticut, where Cohen said the network has cast wide nets, put groups of women on camera and still not found the right combinations. In his telling, some cities require repeated tests — Nashville and Chicago were tried two or three times — while others never produce the cast chemistry the network wants. Beverly Hills, by contrast, already has the kind of overlap Cohen said makes Tutor feel like a natural fit.

The gap in the announcement is still simple: Bravo has not said when Tutor will appear on screen. What it has said is enough to show the strategy. Instead of chasing a brand-new face or forcing a new city to work, the network is folding a known quantity from Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles into a franchise that can use her history, her attitude and her audience on day one.

Cohen, who said he would like to keep hosting the reunion, also drew a line around his own place in the machine. He said he has not been asked to join a Housewives cast and that he would be eliminated immediately if he were. For now, the bigger move is Tutor’s: Bravo has decided she already belongs in the conversation, and the franchise will now have to prove that belief on camera.
