PRS has introduced the Tekton lineup, a new family of guitars it says was built from the ground up for the most technical modern players. The launch puts the company’s latest push squarely into metal territory, with four models under the Tekton name.
The range includes the OG hardtail, the T two-point tremolo, the Floyd Floyd Rose trem, and the SVN seven-string. Each Tekton comes with stainless steel frets, radical body contours, new humbuckers and ultra-thin neck profiles, along with longer scale lengths and all-new Stylus pickups designed to get the most out of digital rigs.
PRS is pitching the Tekton family as more than just another variant on familiar hardware. The company says the lineup fills a gap in its catalog and is meant to go toe to toe with the heavyweights of the metal guitar world, even as some of the ingredients are already part of the PRS playbook. Floyd Rose tremolos and seven-string options are not new to the brand; what is new is the way PRS has bundled them into a dedicated family aimed at a narrower, heavier brief.
The body shape is also part of that reset. PRS describes the Tekton silhouette as a halfway house between the Custom 24 and Vela designs, a clue that it is trying to keep the guitars familiar in the hand while making them feel more aggressive on stage. That mix matters because PRS already has artists tied to hard rock, metal and shred, including Mark Tremonti, Mark Holcomb and Herman Li, and the Tekton gives the company a more explicit answer for players who want that sound without having to look elsewhere.
What PRS has not said is when the Tektons will be on sale. That leaves the new family as a clear statement of direction, but still one waiting for a release date before players can decide whether the promise matches the spec sheet.
