He said he did not wear a suit and tie to the Grammys, to court or to his father’s funeral, then joked that losing 300 pounds meant he had lost “an entire Donald Trump.”
That line was part of a monologue aimed at Trump’s appearance and weight. Jelly Roll said Trump had hosted an IndyCar race in Washington, D.C., drove around the track in his motorcade in what they call the lap of honor, gained 14 pounds after his last physical and was tipping the scales at almost 240. He then told Trump, “Well, Mr. President, from one fat pig to another, take it from me that physical fitness is very important,” before adding, “And trust me, you’ll be happy to see your penis again.”
The set-up mattered because Jelly Roll framed the joke as fair game only after saying he did not want to make fun of Trump’s weight in a way Trump would never use against others. The monologue then cut to clips of Trump mocking people over size and appearance, underlining the double standard Jelly Roll was pointing to without easing off the attack.
Jelly Roll’s own comments about weight loss carried extra weight because he has said he shed the pounds over the past few years. He also tied the moment to a bigger shift in his public life, saying earlier this year that he had become so disconnected from politics that he did not even know it was real until his mid-twenties in jail. He said he grew up in a house of “insane pandemonium” and was just trying to survive in a drug-addict household, which is why he planned to speak out as loudly and clearly as he could now.
