NBA 2K27 is adding a co-ed City when it arrives on September 4, opening The City to both female MyPlayers and male MyPlayers while changing how some of the game’s biggest social and competitive spaces work. The update also brings new gameplay tools, a fresh badge system and mode-specific changes across MyTeam and MyNBA.

The timing matters because NBA 2K used an August 18 livestream at the Inuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA, to lay out the feature set before launch. That reveal centered on how players will move through The City, how badges are earned and equipped, and how the game is leaning harder into shared spaces rather than separate lanes for different types of MyPlayers.

Inside The City, every mode is now co-ed. That includes The REC, The Theater, Ante-Up, Seasonal Parks and the rest of the connected experience. Female MyPlayers can enter that shared space, but they remain a City-only experience, which means the game is expanding access without making every mode across NBA 2K27 fully open to them. The result is a broader City with a narrower character rule set than the headline feature might first suggest.

The mode details are where the update starts to look less cosmetic. The Rec will rotate randomly between five unique environments at launch, while The Theater, Ante-Up and Seasonal Parks all get brand-new environments of their own. NBA 2K27 also adds Badge Tokens for equipping Badges, and the badge pool itself now stands at 53, including 19 brand-new Badges. Synergy slots add another layer, giving badges either a +1 boost or a +2 boost depending on the slot.

MyTeam and MyNBA are changing too, but in different ways. MyTeam will let players exchange any Player Cards except Free Agent cards for elite rewards, while MyNBA Legacy becomes a single-player, player-locked mode that lets players choose any player in the Modern Era and earn experience to upgrade Attributes and Badges. ProPlay continues to power the game’s courtside feel, tying the new systems back to the series’ broader push for realism.

What is left now is not whether NBA 2K27 is adding more systems. It clearly is. The unanswered piece is how the co-ed City and City-only female MyPlayer setup will feel once players get inside it on September 4, when the expanded spaces, badge rules and mode changes finally meet the community.
