Whitney Peak is set to join Universal’s Miami Vice ’85, the studio’s new take on the franchise that will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. The casting adds another name to a project already centered on Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, with the film set for release on May 19, 2028.

Peak’s arrival matters because she was one of several female actors testing for the part, and final chemistry tests with Jordan took place last month before the role came together. Sources said she will play his love interest, giving the cast a key relationship that will shape the film around its lead pair.

The timing is slightly messy on paper. Production on Miami Vice ’85 is set to begin this year, but the project is also being framed as heading into a top-of-2026 start, which suggests the schedule has shifted or been described in different phases of development. Either way, Peak is now attached to a studio film that has been moving forward with a clear release plan.

That plan includes Dan Gilroy’s script, work based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich, with an earlier draft by Eric Warren Singer. The film is inspired by the pilot episode of the Universal Television series Miami Vice, will be filmed for Imax, and is being produced by Dylan Clark and Kosinski.

For Peak, the role extends a busy stretch. She will next be seen as Lenore Dove in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and she also appears in Amazon/MGM’s 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank. She most recently starred in Netflix’s shark thriller Thrash opposite Phoebe Dynevor, a release that went to number one worldwide within 24 hours in April. For Miami Vice ’85, the one question left is not whether Peak is in the movie, but how much of the story will be built around her character once cameras finally roll.
