Trump And Natalie: Why Harp Was on Trump's Backup Jet

Natalie Harp was reported to be one of only three people in Donald Trump’s inner circle on a backup jet after the escape-plane episode that followed the Nato leaders’ summit in Turkey. The small group also included Dan Scavino and Walt Nauta, putting Harp in a role far closer to Trump than most aides ever get.

That detail has drawn fresh attention because Harp, 35, is not a background staffer. She is Trump’s executive assistant and is often called his human printer, a label that fits the image of her carrying a portable printer so she can feed him positive stories about himself and help turn his thoughts into Truth Social posts. During the 2024 presidential campaign, she was seen sitting beside him and taking dictation as he spoke messages he wanted posted.

The timing matters because the backup-jet reporting surfaced this week, when readers were already looking for signs of who still has Trump’s ear. It also lands against the backdrop of Harp’s rise inside his orbit, which began in 2022 after she first came to his attention while working for One America News and later became one of the most visible people around him.

Her closeness has always carried a strange double image. In Regime Change, Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan wrote that the Secret Service questioned personal notes Harp left for Trump in private spaces at the White House, including one that read, “you are all that matters to me.” Her estranged brother, Preston Harp, has also described the relationship as very unhealthy and said she was just like his fan club, a line that cuts against the picture of a conventional aide working a conventional job.

Harp has said Trump helped secure access to experimental treatments for bone cancer, and that history helps explain why she speaks about him with unusual loyalty. But the backup jet episode suggests something more operational than devotion alone: when Trump’s travel plans became sensitive enough to require an escape plane, Harp was still among the handful chosen to stay with him. That leaves the central question unanswered, and it is not a small one. What exactly makes Harp indispensable enough to be there when the circle shrinks to three?
