The Texas Education Agency released its 2026 A-F Accountability Ratings on Friday, putting grades on 1,202 districts and 9,105 campuses across Texas. The numbers landed with a simple message: most campuses held up, but some familiar names moved sharply in the wrong direction.
Mike Morath said the ratings show the progress Texas public schools are making and give parents and the public a clear way to look up how their schools performed. The searchable list is at TXschools.gov, and it arrives at a moment when families can compare not just letter grades but the score behind them, from student achievement to school progress and closing the gaps.
By TEA’s count, 585 campuses improved from below an A to an A, and 85% of campuses that received an A-F rating statewide earned a C or higher. Patton Springs Independent School District in Dickens County posted one of the strongest results, finishing with an A and a score of 100. That puts it at the top end of a system built to sort districts and campuses into clear categories, with C and above considered acceptable academic achievement.
But the statewide lift did not reach everywhere. Malone ISD in Hill County fell from a B and an 88 in 2024-25 to an F and a 44 in 2025-26, one of the sharpest drops in the set. Dr. Mae E. Jones-Clark Elementary School in Beaumont also slid, going from a C and 74 to an F and 41, while Celebrate Dyslexia School in San Antonio received an F and 41 after not being rated in 2024-25. The ratings use weighted scores for student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps, including progress toward goals across racial and ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds and other factors, but TEA did not explain in the release why some schools moved so far in the opposite direction.
That gap is the part parents will notice first. The release gives them a statewide snapshot, but it also leaves a harder question hanging over schools that fell fast: what changed inside the campuses that dropped, and whether Friday’s grades are a warning or a turning point for the year ahead.
