Marblehead High School is mourning the death of senior Owen Coyne, a three-sport athlete whose loss was announced by Superintendent John Robidoux. The school said counseling would be available Friday until 7 p.m., again Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

Robidoux said the school will also provide counseling support during the school day in the days and weeks ahead for students and staff who want it. The Magicians' Saturday game against Danvers has been canceled.

The announcement lands as families and classmates try to absorb news that has cut through the school community all at once. Coyne's parents, Angela Paradise and Brian Coyne, along with his siblings Grady, Landon and Ella, said he was a child, a brother, a captain, a teammate, a friend and a young man who was deeply loved by many.

In their statement, the family said there are no words for the loss, and asked people to keep Owen close in their hearts and surround those who loved him, especially his friends and classmates, with love and compassion. They said he brought joy, laughter and light into the lives of those who knew him, and that he will be missed beyond words.

Robidoux called it a sad day for the Marblehead community and asked for positive thoughts and prayers for the Coyne family and Owen's friends. The school has made clear it is offering support now, but it has not said how Coyne died.

For students and staff, the immediate next step is support, not speculation. Counseling remains available through the weekend, and the school says it will keep sharing information as appropriate while the community grieves a loss that is already being felt across Marblehead High School.
