Paris Jackson says the first time she met Debbie Rowe, she did not treat it like a life-defining moment. She came downstairs, saw Rowe in the living room with Katherine Jackson, and greeted her with, “Hey, mom.” Rowe answered, “hi,” and the two talked for a second before leaving together and spending the day together.
Jackson, 29, described the encounter on the Aug. 12 episode of Call Her Daddy, turning a long-rumored family detail into a clear account. The conversation centered on how ordinary the moment felt to her, even though it was the first meeting between a daughter and the mother who had been absent from her childhood until then.
That missing stretch is what makes the story land now. Jackson said she met Rowe for the first time at 15, years after being primarily raised by Michael Jackson until his death in 2009 and then by Katherine Jackson. She said she did not go into the meeting with expectations, adding that walking into something that way leaves “this really cool space for something organic to just blossom,” while expectations in a relationship can lead to disappointment or resentment.
From there, Jackson said, the bond kept growing. “We’re very similar,” she said, adding that the relationship has strengthened over the years and that she now celebrates Mother's Day with Rowe. In 2021, she also said on Red Table Talk that getting to know her mother showed how alike they are, from their looks to Rowe’s taste in country and folk music. “We look a lot alike,” Jackson said then, calling it “cool having her as a friend.”
The unresolved part is the simplest one: Jackson gave a detailed account of the first meeting, but not the reason it took until age 15 for it to happen. What she did make plain is that the relationship did not begin with drama. It began with a brief greeting, a day together, and no expectation that the two would need to force what followed.
