Thousands of Spectrum TV users reported outages and app trouble Monday evening, with complaints piling up fast before the service appeared to settle back down by 10 p.m. EDT. The problem was reported across the United States, including California, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Florida and Missouri.
DownDetector logged a sharp surge in complaints as users said the Spectrum TV app was showing the RLP-1035 error while they tried to watch TV. Ask Spectrum said engineers were working to restore issues with the Spectrum TV app, and by 10 p.m. EDT DownDetector was no longer seeing fresh outage reports.
That made the disruption broad but short-lived. The app appeared to be working normally again after the outage, even though many users had spent the evening trying to figure out why the service had stopped working in the first place.
The frustration was not total for everyone. Some users said their internet or mobile service still worked while the Spectrum TV app, website and customer service lines were unavailable, leaving them with a patchwork of working and broken services at the same time.
The cause remained unclear, and Spectrum had not yet issued an official statement on the problem in the source material. For now, the unanswered question is not whether the outage happened — thousands of complaints made that plain — but what triggered the RLP-1035 error that took the app down in so many places and then let it recover within about 30 minutes.
