People who get Supplemental Security Income will not see a check in August 2026. The August payment is being sent early, on Friday, July 31, because Aug. 1 falls on a Saturday.
That shift matters now because SSI is usually paid on the first day of the month, and many recipients plan around that deposit. In this case, the money tied to the August cycle reaches accounts before August begins, which can make a month look shorter on paper even though the benefit is still being delivered on time.
The early payment follows a standard SSA rule: when the first of the month lands on a weekend or holiday, SSI goes out on the last weekday before the usual send date. Regular Social Security retirement benefits are not affected the same way and will be paid in August on the agency’s regular Wednesday schedule, which is based on birth date and reaches nearly 74 million people.
That is the part that can trip people up. SSI recipients will receive their August money at the end of July, then no check during August itself. For anyone who gets both SSI and regular Social Security, the two payments do not land together in the same pattern every month; the regular Social Security check comes on its usual date, while the SSI funds for the following month are pushed forward when the calendar forces an early release.
The next early SSI payment after July 31 comes on Friday, Oct. 30, because Nov. 1 falls on a weekend. The first check of a new year also arrives early, on New Year’s Eve, for the same reason. People who receive both SSI and regular Social Security are paid three times in July, October and December when those calendar shifts line up.
