A storm in Clifton knocked a large tree onto power lines Monday night, damaged a nearby home on Greendale Avenue and left about 25 residents without power.
Cincinnati police said no injuries were reported, but they blocked Greendale Avenue at its entrance from Clifton Avenue after the tree came down. Drivers were told to enter from the opposite direction while crews dealt with the damage.
The outage was part of a wider storm impact that Duke Energy tracked across the region. Its website showed a peak of about 15,000 power outages, then 4,173 early Tuesday and later 3,541, with most of the remaining outages in Hamilton and Clermont counties.
The damage was not limited to the downed tree. The home across the street had several windows broken and debris left on the roof, a sign of how hard the storm hit a single block even as the broader outage count began to fall. That drop, though, did not mean service was about to return for everyone.
By early Tuesday, the numbers had improved sharply, but it still was not clear when power would be restored. Duke Energy said repairs and damage assessments were underway, which meant the work had moved from finding the problem to fixing it, but not yet to saying when the lights would be back on.
For residents on Greendale Avenue, the wait now hinges on that final step. The storm is no longer producing the kind of outage peak seen overnight, but the remaining customers are still tied to line repairs and home damage that have to be cleared before service can return.
