Solana-based decentralized exchanges beat Coinbase and Kraken combined in spot trading volume during the June 12-18 trading window, a milestone that underscores how quickly trading activity has shifted on-chain. On their strongest day in that stretch, those venues reached $10.7 billion in spot volume, and they topped $7 billion in daily volume across the week.

That is why traders are watching Solana now: the network is not just moving money, it is moving order flow. DeFiLlama data cited by Crypto Briefing show Solana DEX activity reaching $117.7 billion in January 2026, versus $52.8 billion for Ethereum in the same month, a gap of more than 120% in Solana’s favor. The scale matters because DEX volume is a cleaner sign of where users are actually trading, not just where they park funds.

The numbers also point to the machinery behind the rush. Lower fees often run below a cent per swap, block times are often cited at roughly 400 milliseconds, and Jupiter routes orders across Solana’s automated market makers. Pump.fun made token creation and speculation easy, while Raydium’s cumulative volume is now north of $695 billion. In practice, a trader can move from Phantom to Jupiter to Raydium to a new Pump.fun token without asking one company for permission.

That does not make Coinbase and Kraken irrelevant. They still have fiat rails, compliance teams, institutional custody, customer support and recognizable brands, and those are not minor features in a market that still needs on-ramps and guardrails. But the June 12-18 figures suggest the center of gravity in active trading is drifting toward Solana’s decentralized finance stack, even if part of that flow comes from bots, snipers, arbitrage desks, market makers and retail traders that are not separately counted.

For now, the sharpest question is not whether Solana can post another large week. It is how much of that volume becomes durable user behavior rather than a burst of speculative traffic that centralized exchanges can still intercept with the services they sell best.
