Sony has restored PS5 libraries and the Recently Played section after a day-long PlayStation Network disruption this week left some users seeing inaccurate account data. The problem sat inside the PlayStation 'Gaming and social' service, not a full network shutdown, but it was enough to scramble what some players saw on their consoles.
That is why people are still checking their PS5 screens now. Some owners first reported games they had not purchased appearing in their libraries, while others later saw the PlayStation Network showing activity from about a month earlier. The result was a confusing mix of missing recent titles and older play history showing up in place of what was current.
The issue matters because it touched account records rather than gameplay itself. Reports on the PlayStation subreddit described the same pattern across both disc-based and digital games, although not every user was affected. For some, the library view looked wrong for only part of the outage; for others, the Recently Played section was the clearest sign that the data had drifted out of sync.
Sony's restoration fixed the affected sections, but it did not answer the central question of what caused the mismatch or why only some PS5 owners saw it. The company has also not spelled out how long the discrepancy lasted for individual accounts, leaving users to compare notes online after their own libraries returned to normal.
For now, the cleanest reading is that Sony has repaired the visible damage, not fully explained it. The PS5 account data is back, but the reason it broke — and the reason some users still say older activity lingered after the fix — remains the part of the story that has not been closed.
