Netflix has released the trailer for The Last House, a sci-fi thriller led by Greta Lee and Wagner Moura. The film is set to premiere globally on Netflix on August 7.
That date is why the trailer matters now. Lee is already drawing attention this month with another high-profile appearance in Toy Story 5, while The Last House gives viewers a first look at her next major screen turn before it lands on streaming.
Louis Leterrier directs the film, which centers on a family of four suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out. They are forced to rely on dwindling resources and each other while facing a mysterious threat inside the house, though the trailer does not spell out what is trapping them or how the danger works.
The cast also includes Gabriel Barbosa, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski and Riley Chung. Wagner Moura’s role comes after his Academy Award-nominated performance in The Secret Agent, adding another layer of anticipation around the project. Lee, meanwhile, remains best known for Past Lives, and her pairing with Moura gives Netflix another prestige-leaning title to frame around a simple hook: a family cut off from the outside world and pushed to survive whatever is waiting with them.
For now, the trailer answers the release date and the cast, but not the central mystery. That uncertainty is doing its job, and it leaves August 7 as the day viewers find out whether the threat inside The Last House is something human, something not, or something the family cannot escape at all.
