Four riders who were stuck about 120 feet in the air on the Sky Screamer at Six Flags St. Louis were safely rescued around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, ending an active rescue that drew firefighters to the park early in the evening.
The Metro West Fire Department said it and other departments responded while the rescue was underway, and Six Flags said it had a park representative up with the guests and was trying to keep them comfortable as crews worked to get them down safely. For hours, the ride held four people high above the ground, but firefighters said there was no risk of them falling.
The ride involved was the Sky Screamer, a swing ride at the Missouri amusement park, and the rescue became necessary after the park’s own procedure to bring the riders down did not work. That left firefighters to complete a job the park could not finish on its own.
What remains unanswered is why the Sky Screamer stopped in the first place. The park and fire department gave a clear ending to the night — all four riders were brought down safely — but they did not say what caused the ride to stall or whether any review will follow.
