A new Harry Potter tabletop RPG has been revealed, and it does not come with a release date. Harry Potter: Defenders of Hogwarts was recently unveiled on Kickstarter and LaunchOracle, where it is listed as coming soon, with fans able to sign up for alerts when the project goes live.
The game is being developed by MinaLima, the graphic designers behind the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, and is described as a whole new tabletop adventure set in the wizarding world. It is built for 2-5 players, is intended for ages 13+ and is expected to run up to 90 minutes per match.
That makes the reveal easy to understand as more than a niche side project. Harry Potter fans looking for the next official game in the universe, including players still tracking every scrap of news around Hogwarts Legacy 2, now have another title to watch even if it sits on a very different shelf from the video game they may be waiting for.
The timing matters because Hogwarts Legacy 2 remains a source of intense attention after Hogwarts Legacy became one of the best-selling games of 2023. But the same anticipation has also brought unease, as reports that the sequel could coordinate story elements with HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series have unsettled some fans, while rumors about possible live-service features have only deepened the skepticism. None of that has been officially confirmed.
For now, the only firm next step is the Kickstarter launch itself, and that date has not been set. Defenders of Hogwarts is live enough to tease interest and loose enough to keep expectations in check, which leaves the project in the exact place many franchise fans know well: visible, promising and still waiting to be dated.
