National Grid is bringing three customer assistance events to Worcester this month as summer electricity bills start to climb. The company will be on hand June 4, June 5 and June 15 to help customers with payment support, bill management and ways to lower energy use.
The first event is set for Thursday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Church Community Room, 236 Lincoln St. A second stop follows on Friday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at El Buen Samaritano, 39 Piedmont St., before representatives return on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centro Inc., 11 Sycamore St. The timing matters because many households are still feeling the weight of high utility costs, even as National Grid is trying to point customers toward help before the hottest stretch of the season settles in.
At the events, customer assistance representatives will walk residents through summer energy-saving strategies, budget billing options, payment assistance programs, tiered discount rates and the company’s arrears management program for eligible customers. National Grid also says customers can ask about a Payment Assistance Bundle that combines a deferred payment agreement, automatic monthly payments and budget billing to help spread costs more evenly and manage past-due balances.
Bill Malee said the company is taking a proactive approach, offering cooling tips and billing help so customers can stay cool and keep costs down through the summer. That pitch comes with a practical edge: National Grid is also steering eligible customers toward insulation, air-sealing improvements and energy-saving equipment through Mass Save and related initiatives, along with advice as simple as adjusting thermostats, using fans with air conditioning and closing blinds during peak sunlight hours.
The Worcester events are part of a broader push across Central Massachusetts, with additional assistance sessions planned for June 17 at the Uxbridge Senior Center and June 22 at WHEAT Community Connections in Clinton. What remains unanswered is how many Worcester customers will turn up or qualify, but the schedule gives anyone facing a tough utility bill a short window to get help in person.
