The British Horseracing Authority has added two replacement fixtures after Haydock Park’s weekend meetings on Friday 29 May and Saturday 30 May were cancelled, putting Wolverhampton and Carlisle into the racing calendar at short notice. Wolverhampton will stage a six-race card on 29 May, while Carlisle will host an eight-race card on 30 May.
That change matters today because it resets the weekend programme for racegoers, trainers, jockeys and ITV Racing viewers who were left with a blank where Haydock had been. The Silver Bowl, which had been due to run at Haydock on 23 May, will now be rescheduled at Carlisle and will keep the same prize money, with five races from the meeting set to be shown live on ITV Racing.
Wolverhampton’s card can be divided to eight races if needed, and entries for Friday’s fixture close at 12 noon on Wednesday 27 May before declarations are made by 10am on Thursday 28 May. The jockey booking deadline for Friday’s fixtures will also be extended by 24 hours because of the extra meeting, giving connections a little more room to adjust to the new plan.
Carlisle’s card is close to a straight swap for the Haydock Saturday meeting, but not quite. Aside from the Silver Bowl and some minor distance changes, the programme will mirror the originally scheduled card, which means the replacement is tidy on paper even if it is not a perfect copy of what was lost.
What remains unanswered is why Haydock Park’s fixtures were cancelled in the first place. For now, the racing authorities have moved quickly to protect the weekend schedule, and the next deadline is clear: entries for Wolverhampton close on Wednesday, with declarations due the following morning.
