lifted a shelter-in-place order Friday evening after a response in a Northeast Austin neighborhood ended with a woman in custody. The order had been in place for nearby residents for about 20 minutes.

Police said the call came in around 3:56 p.m. Friday from the 6900 block of Blessing Avenue, where officers responded to reports involving a woman threatening herself. Officers set up a perimeter and brought in SWAT officers and hostage negotiators to help resolve the situation safely.

APD issued the shelter-in-place order at 5:03 p.m. for nearby residents while the response was underway. By about 5:23 p.m., police said the order had been lifted and the woman had surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

Officials said the woman had barricaded herself out in the open, but there was never a threat to the public. APD said the incident ended safely and no injuries were reported. Authorities have not released additional details about the woman.

The brief lockdown drew a fast and visible police response, but it did not turn into a broader emergency for the neighborhood. For residents on Blessing Avenue, the immediate concern ended as quickly as it began, even as investigators withheld key details about what led to the call.
