The Isle of Man named its initial squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 14 May, selecting 22 Island competitors to carry the Manx flag in July and August. The first group includes four athletes in athletics, three in bowls, two in cycling, one in gymnastics, one in para powerlifting and 11 in swimming.
Erica Bellhouse said the selections were a testament to the Island's sporting quality, and the names on the list back that up. Sarah Astin, Ollie Lockley and David Mullarkey all bring previous Commonwealth Games experience in athletics, while Regan Corrin is set for his debut in the discipline. In track cycling, Matthew Bostock and former world scratch race champion Ben Swift will race for the Isle of Man, and 17-year-old Alfie Bezance earned a bipartite place in para powerlifting after climbing to 11th in the Commonwealth in his class.
Bowls will again feature for the Isle of Man, with Michael Collister, Mark McGreal and Caroline Whitehead selected for the trio. Harry Eyres will lead the gymnastics effort after winning multiple medals for the Island at the International Island Games in Orkney last summer. In swimming, Libby Curphey, Lauren Dennett, Charlie Foster, Ella Justice, Magnus Kelly and Alex Turnbull are among those set to make their Commonwealth debuts, while Peter Allen, Laura Kinley, Kiera Prentice, Harry Robinson and Joel Watterson return after representing the Isle of Man in Birmingham in 2022.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will run from 23 July to 2 August, and the Isle of Man may still add several more Manx participants in the coming weeks. The squad announcement also reflects the shape of a scaled-down Games, but it still gives the Island a spread of athletes across track, pool, bowl green and lifting platform as the countdown begins.
The main question now is how many more names will join the initial 22 before Glasgow opens its doors. For the athletes already picked, the next step is clear: turn selection into selection day results.
