The third round of the 108th PGA Championship is set for Saturday at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy among the biggest names near the top of the board. The pga leaderboard today brings the defending champion back into focus after Scheffler closed the second round two shots behind halfway leaders Maverick McNealy and Alex Smalley.
McIlroy, who chased the weekend with a bogey-free 67 on Friday, was scheduled to tee off at 4pm UK time alongside Brooks Koepka. Scheffler, the defending champion, was due out later at 6.40pm UK time with David Puig, a draw that keeps the pressure on as the championship moves deeper into Saturday.
The tee times gave the day a clear rhythm. Cameron Young was paired with Justin Thomas at 7pm UK time, Justin Rose started at 2.15pm UK time, and Shane Lowry teed off at 1.21pm UK time. Earlier groups included Jhonattan Vegas with Alex Noren at 1245, Nicolai Hojgaard with Michael Brennan at 1254, Christiaan Bezuidenhout with William Mouw at 1312, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen with Daniel Berger at 1330, Luke Donald with Elvis Smylie at 1339, and Kristoffer Reitan with Padraig Harrington at 1357.
That lineup matters because the names at the top are still packed tightly enough to make Saturday decisive, especially with Scheffler trying to protect the form that won him the title a year ago and McIlroy chasing a second major win of the season. The tournament has moved from positioning to pressure, and Aronimink is now the kind of course where one clean round can change everything.
The split between the early starters and the marquee afternoon groups also leaves little room for anyone to hide. McIlroy’s bogey-free 67 showed control, but Scheffler’s two-shot deficit after 36 holes means the defending champion is still in striking distance and still dependent on making up ground rather than merely holding position. The third round is set to sharpen that gap before Sunday arrives.
