will suspend services between Melbourne and Denpasar and between Adelaide and Denpasar, with the last flights on both routes scheduled for 18 June 2026.

The announcement, made in Sydney on 15 May 2026, affects services operated by and comes as the carrier says the routes are no longer viable under the current operating environment. Captain said the decision was made in response to the sustained increase in global jet fuel prices caused by ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East.

The move lands hard for travellers who had already locked in plans to Bali, one of the airline’s better-known leisure destinations from Australia. AirAsia said affected customers are being contacted directly and that it will try to get guests to their destination through date changes or via its Kuala Lumpur hub where possible.

For AirAsia, the suspension is not a retreat from demand so much as a sign that costs have outrun what the market can bear on these sectors. The airline said the price pressure on fuel has made the Melbourne and Adelaide services unsustainable for now, despite the appeal of direct links to Denpasar.

Abdurachman said AirAsia understands the suspension affects long-made travel plans and apologised for the inconvenience, thanking guests for their support and understanding. That leaves passengers waiting for rebooking options and a clearer picture of how many trips can be preserved through alternatives, including the carrier’s Kuala Lumpur connection.

The cutback also underscores how quickly far-off geopolitical shocks are showing up in ordinary travel decisions. One day a route to Bali looks routine; the next, fuel costs and uncertainty in the Middle East have pushed it off the timetable.
