Bradford Council and partner agencies carried out a road safety and waste regulations crackdown on Canterbury Avenue in Bradford on May 11, checking 40 vehicles and taking action against drivers and vehicles that broke the rules.
The operation led to notices being issued to two vehicles for waste transfer issues, one taxi being suspended, eight traffic offence tickets being handed out and one vehicle being seized for driving without a valid licence.
A council spokesperson said the day of action focused on road safety, waste carrier regulations and licensing, and involved Bradford East Neighbourhood Policing Team, Operation Steerside and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency issued several fixed penalty notices to vehicles carrying goods that breached weight restrictions or vehicle regulations, adding another layer to an enforcement sweep aimed at both roadworthiness and environmental crime.
The council said the operation was a successful day of action and thanked everyone who helped. For Bradford, the significance is immediate: enforcement teams, police and transport regulators were on the same stretch of road on the same day, and the result was a clear warning that vehicles, licences and waste rules will all be checked together.
