What Is Captain's Day In Fortnite? Lil' Uzi Vert Joins the Game

Fortnite Treasure Hunters rolled out its first weekly update today, and the Captain's Day update puts Lil' Uzi Vert into the game in more than one way. He is now part of the roster, is set to appear in the item shop, and has also taken over the Stronghold as a boss players can challenge.

That matters because beating him there drops his special weapon and a unique Sprite, giving the update something to chase beyond a simple crossover skin. The weapon is a good SMG, and it gets faster the longer players hold the trigger, while holding it also gives a movement speed boost.

The timing is the real reason players are looking for what is Captain's Day in Fortnite right now. The update lands as part of a mini-season that runs until the end of the month, and Epic is leaning on smaller weekly drops instead of the bigger fortnightly updates players may have expected. For this event, the Sprite and its variants are more common in the loot pool for 24 hours from 9am ET, which gives players a short window to hunt for the boosted spawns.

There is also a quiet correction inside the update. Cursed Sprites first appeared briefly at the start of the season by mistake, then were disabled the next day. They are back now in the normal Sprite pool, where they give the effect of the normal Sprite, make rare Sprites more common from all sources, and come with a catch: touching water while using them now damages players.

For players, the next move is simple. The Captain's Day window is limited, the stronger Sprite pool does not last long, and Lil' Uzi Vert is already on the map. If you want the boosted drops and the Stronghold fight, the time to go looking is during the 24-hour stretch that begins at 9am ET, not after it closes.
