Chevrolet has redesigned the 2027 Silverado 1500 with new sheetmetal, a new interior and two new small-block V-8s, turning a familiar half-ton into what the company calls a new generation. Car and Driver tested the truck and found a lineup that still stretches from work use to hard-core off-road driving, but now does it with fresher styling and more power choices.

That is why the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is drawing attention now: the truck is not just a refresh, but a broad reset for a model that buyers use for towing, commuting and recreation. The exterior brings LED lights, burly wheel lip moldings and a redesigned bumper, while the cabin gets a full update that is meant to make the truck feel more current than the one it replaces.

The engine range starts with an upgraded turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes 350 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The returning Duramax turbo 3.0-liter inline-six is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, and it can be paired with an optional 34-gallon fuel tank. Chevrolet claims that setup gives the truck a 900-mile range, a figure that, if realized in regular use, would put long-haul distance at the center of the Silverado story.

The bigger changes come from the new V-8s. Chevrolet adds 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter engines, with the smaller one making 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque in Trail Boss trim and the larger one delivering 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque. The Trail Boss also gets a roughly two-inch suspension lift, 34-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires on 18-inch wheels and optional underbody cameras, while the High Country and ZR2 were driven with the 6.6-liter V-8.

There is one catch in the middle of all that newness. Chevrolet calls the truck a new generation, yet the chassis remains familiar from the previous year, with suspension tweaks intended to sharpen towing and improve ride quality. That makes the 2027 Silverado 1500 less a clean-sheet reboot than a heavily revised truck wearing the language of a full redesign.

What matters next is not whether the changes exist, but how broadly Chevrolet spreads them across the trim ladder. The lineup is wide, but not every engine appears in every version, and the mix of pricing and availability will decide whether the new-generation claim feels like a real step forward or mostly a new body on familiar bones.
