The Carolina Hurricanes host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET at Lenovo Center, and it is the last time Carolina will skate at home before leaving for the 2026 NHL Global Series Finland. The game also gives the Hurricanes a chance to finish the season sweep after a 5-2 win at United Center on Oct. 10.
That is why this matchup matters now. Carolina is 13-3-2, coming off a 5-3 victory at the New York Islanders on Thursday, and has won five of its past six games. Logan Stankoven has been part of that push, with six points over a four-game point streak, including a goal on Thursday. For Chicago, the visit to Carolina comes with a different pressure attached: the Blackhawks are 4-12-1, are trying to end a five-game winless streak and are still looking for their first road win after going 0-7-1 away from home.
The contrast is sharp, but the trip is what gives Saturday its edge. Carolina does not have to squeeze this game into a longer home stretch; it is the last stop before the team heads to Helsinki for meetings with the Seattle Kraken at Veikkaus Arena on Nov. 12 and Nov. 14. That makes the night more than another regular-season date. It is the final chance for the Hurricanes to protect their home momentum before they shift continents, while Chicago is trying to steady itself after a 4-1 loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
There is also a streak story on both benches. Roman Kantserov scored in that loss for Chicago to extend his point streak to seven games, giving the Blackhawks one of the few bright spots in a skid that has otherwise kept them from building any road traction. His seven-game run ties him for the sixth-longest point streak by a Blackhawks rookie and is the longest by a Chicago rookie since Jonathan Toews had a 10-game streak in 2007-08. Carolina, meanwhile, has the far simpler task: keep its form intact, avoid a stumble before travel, and decide whether the rhythm that has carried it this far can survive the schedule change that starts next week.
Saturday will not answer every question about the Finland trip, but it will show whether the Hurricanes can carry a five-of-six winning run into it without interruption. It will also show whether the Blackhawks can turn one strong individual streak into something their season has not had on the road.
