Chris Donisi has been chosen as the next voice of Logan Airport, turning a casual contest entry into a job millions of travelers will hear. The Arlington pipefitter said he never imagined he would have the chance to be a voice actor, let alone be selected for one of the region’s most recognizable audio roles.
The result of The Voice of Logan contest matters now because it sets who will greet passengers at Logan Airport next. Donisi told 7NEWS his mother found the contest on a whim and pushed him to try it. “My mother found this on a whim. She said you’d be perfect, and I tried it out, and here I am,” he said.
Donisi said the scale of the job is part of what makes it stand out. “Million people hearing my voice? That would be something special,” he said. For a New England native who works as a pipefitter in Arlington, the selection gives an unexpected public voice to someone who once thought that kind of work was out of reach.
He also said he feels a connection to listeners because he is homegrown here, a detail that gives the choice a local edge beyond the novelty of the contest. “I feel like I relate to the people of Boston because of, you know, me being homegrown here,” he said.
What remains unclear is when Donisi will actually begin speaking for Logan Airport. The contest result is settled. The start date is not, and that leaves the next step in the transition waiting in the wings even as his name now leads the airport’s voice role.
