Hulu has greenlit an untitled reality series built around Whitney Leavitt, giving her a new platform just six months after she said goodbye to The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The Whitney Leavitt upcoming reality series will star Leavitt and be executive produced by her, turning one reality-TV breakout into the focus of another.
The show comes from Jeff Jenkins Productions, 3BMG and Leavitt Media House, and it will follow Leavitt and her family as they navigate her new fame and career ambitions while keeping family first. That puts her at the center of a project that extends the Mormon Wives universe even as she has already moved on from the original series.
Leavitt announced her departure from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in May during her final performance as Roxie Hart in Chicago. She had been part of season five of the series, and she will not appear in future seasons after the show was renewed for another 20 episodes. The new Hulu order now makes her exit look less like an ending than a pivot.
That pivot matters because Leavitt is not coming to Hulu as a blank slate. She finished sixth on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars with Mark Ballas, made her feature film debut with All for Love and executive produced that film through Leavitt Media House. Hulu is also expanding the Mormon Wives universe with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County, which will premiere on November 12.
The friction is hard to miss: Leavitt left one Mormon Wives chapter, and another is opening around her almost immediately. She will executive produce the untitled series alongside Conner Leavitt, Jeff Jenkins, Russell Jay-Staglik, Amanda Weinstein, Brandon Beck, Ross Weintraub and Reinout Oerlemans, while also preparing to return to Broadway next month in Just in Time. For Hulu, the bet is clear. Leavitt has moved from supporting player to the face of her own reality franchise.
