Ben Napier says he does not know how much money he and Erin Napier have, and he says that is by design. On Tuesday, October 27, he said on the Talk To Me: The Debra Fileta Podcast that he does not have access to the couple’s money, a rare glimpse into how the family handles its household finances.
The reason, he said, is simple: if he could get to the money, he would spend it on things they do not need. That admission is what makes the comments land now. Ben and Erin Napier were talking about the ways they were raised and how those childhood experiences shaped the way they think about money, a conversation that turned personal fast because it explained not just who guards the accounts, but why.
Erin Napier said she came from a well-off family. She said her father was a doctor of physical therapy and a chicken farmer, her mother drove a Mercedes, and the family had a new house. Even so, she said she was not spoiled and that when she asked for things, the answer was always no. Ben Napier described a different childhood, saying his parents had to scratch by and had to fight for every penny they had, which left him careful and frugal around money.
That split still shows up in the way they live. Erin Napier said she is extremely good at watching their finances and making sure they are responsible, while Ben Napier said money itself does not matter much to him. He and Erin Napier, who have daughters Helen, 8, and Mae, 5, also talked about tithing, and he said they have given even when they did not have any money and were not making any money.
The one thing the comments do not fully explain is the structure behind it. Ben said he has no access to the money, but he did not spell out how the arrangement works day to day or what guardrails sit around it. What he did make plain is that the setup is intentional, built to keep him from impulse spending and to keep Erin Napier in charge of the numbers as the couple says it has always had more than it needed.
