Denver Broncos News: Home-field edge looms large for Chiefs rematch in Week 8

The Broncos get another shot at the Chiefs in Week 8, and this time the game comes to Empower Field at Mile High. Denver lost at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 1, but if it beats Kansas City now, it would move to 6-2 and enter Week 9 in first place in the AFC West.

That is why the search for Denver Broncos news has turned back to home field. Sean Payton said Wednesday that the Broncos' home games have been amazing, and he said the crowd noise adds stress to the operation. The numbers back him up: Denver is 3-0 at home this season, has won 16 of its last 17 regular-season home games and is 11-1 in regular-season games at Empower Field at Mile High since the start of the 2025 season, the best mark in the NFL in that span.

Two of those home wins came in prime time, and two came after the Broncos erased double-digit second-half deficits. That is part of the reason the home record has taken on a sharper edge this week. Nik Bonitto said it is not easy to play at Mile High because of the altitude and the noise, while Mike McGlinchey called Arrowhead Stadium and the Broncos' home field two of the hardest places to play in the country and the NFL. He said the crowd will matter, and Justin Strnad put it more directly: the Broncos are going to need the fans to be super loud this week.

At the same time, the Broncos are trying not to make the game bigger than it is. Courtland Sutton called it the most important one because it is the next one, and Bo Nix said the team is keeping a next-game mentality. That approach fits the reality of the standings: a win would push Denver into first place, but Payton has kept the focus on the matchup itself rather than the race around it.

That leaves the same question the Broncos have carried all season: can home field do more than just make noise? Against the Chiefs in Week 8, Denver is counting on the answer being yes.
